Two central bank officials remanded over neglect of duty in Bagyenda scandal

Bagyenda-1Two Bank of Uganda staff were Tuesday remanded by Kamapala City Hall Magistrates court until December 6 for alleged neglect of duty
Charles Mollo and Beatrice Kyambadde were arrested on Thursday last week for allegedly failing to stop former Executive Director for Supervision Justine Bagyenda from illegally removing central bank documents from the premises.
They however while appearing in court denied the charges.
Bagyenda is currently part of a group of high ranking BOU officials facing the parliament’s COSASE over the closure of several defunct banks that include Crane Bank.
In her Monday submission, Bagyenda had pleaded for leniency for the staff who were handed over to Police for giving false information to the committee under oath.
Prosecution told court that investigations into the matter are not yet complete and asked for more time.
Bagyenda’s official driver Job Turyahabwe and bodyguard Judith Adikoret did not appear in court.
